In the news

The group of academies (schools) I work for, Harris, was in an online publication today.

Of course, we will not see the Harris effect in all Academies; the vast majority
of which are not changing management, simply their status. But Harris is a good
example of the benefits of creating a 'school chain'. Its name is
synonymous with quality.
I imagine similar chains (ARK etc) will
expand, competing for pupils on ethos and pedagogical style, as they do in
Sweden .

Good stuff, click here to check it out the rest of the article.

Estonia

Last weekend I was fortunately enough to get to go to Tallinn, Estonia to visit an old friend of mine, Jamie Banks. Great weekend - I'll tell you more later.

Until then, here's a picture from Saturday night on the beach (there was a lantern lighting thing going on that night at the beach - hundreds of people gathered, sending up lanterns. Really cool sight!)

Great friends, interesting and unplanned evening

My car went into the shop for the third time in the last week today: first a service, then to have the wheel bearing fixed (which I should have done last November) then today to fix the ac. Too long of a story about my car today but it ended up with me not having my car back tonight and as the car garage didn't answer the phone. Not ideal, but no biggy... Until I got home (thanks to a lift from a colleague and friend) and realised my house keys were on the key ring with my car keys at the car garage - NO keys to get in. Poop!
My friend Paul was due to come over tonight but I had to change that plan obviously. Luckily my old neighbour, Alex, had a spare key for my new flat...but Alex wasn't home. I ended up going to Paul's work and we changed our plans to go out for dinner, just about the time Alex got home and called. I picked up my keys, went out to the Dulwich Wood pub (which was lovely and on my doorstep, but I'd never been before) and had a fantastic evening! Paul came back to mine for a cuppa and a game of Sequence. He's as competitive as I am, and I'm happy to report that I beat him 2 games to 1 :-)

(I'm a bit behind in uploading this blog... I write it in May!)

Rip off Britian

You've got to be kidding me! Now creeping over £80 for a tank of fuel?!! That's $135 for 15 gallons of fuel for you Americans. Internet says 15 gallons in States would be roughly $50 at the moment. Can you say ridiculous?
