Day 2 - Palaces, Playing with art & Pascals

Wednesday brought rain. It was a good day for the ducks though. Wednesday morning (okay really late morning) we went to the palace.

Had the obligatory picture with the guard

Look closely at this picture. These guards are meant to be very stern and straight faced. There were some other English people there being extremely stupid and he couldn't keep a straight face. Oh the fun.

A bit of the changing of the guards for you. Just enough to run my battery completely flat. Grr.

With a dead battery, picture taking is pretty hard. Cate was kind enough to agree to go back to the hostel (opposite direction of where we were meant to go) so I could charge the battery.

Beacuse of all the rain, Cate's shoes (and socks and feet) were soaking, so we stopped to buy a pair of dry shoes for Cate.
Then off to the hostel so Cate could get into dry clothes and shoes and so I could charge the camera battery.

Then we headed off to the sculpture park. The snow had pretty much all gone in Oslo, the only exception big mounds that had been gathered from clearing the walking path and such. Outside the sculpture park gates, Cate decided she should break in her new shoes by climbing up the snow hill. 2 seconds after I took this photo her leg went through the snow. Oh what fun.

This is the sculpture park. There's a long path up to a monument / big statue thing. Along the way there were many, many statues. I took a photo of some of them that I thought were fun / cute / strange, and have included a few for your viewing pleasure.

Once you were down the path, there were a set of stairs to get up to the top monument / statue thing:

and then another set of stairs
and another set
and for good measure, ANOTHER set.

Then you got to a set of gates, walked through to ... another set of stairs. Sheesh!

I made use of the timer function of my camera so we could get a picture with us both.
Then it was time to have fun with all the sculptures! This was my favourite part of being there of course :-)
Look there!
Where? (This is Cate in case you can't tell)
Can you see it?

And we continued to have fun as we walked down the path.
Cate needed a bit of time to think about all the art
Which made me cross. So cross, I threw a tempertantrum like the baby statue.
Cate decided she would too
Then it was back to business. Where to next? (Cate here with the guide book. She did a great job of finding the things to visit and getting us there. We didn't get lost once!)

We headed back into the city centre and passed a souvenir shop. To expensive to buy souvenirs, so we took pictures instead.
Does it suit me? Cate enjoyed the hats too. Even if she needed a bit of convincing to let me take a picture.

Then we went for a cuppa tea and cake at Pascals. It's a pretty well known place apparently. SO much so that former president Bill Clinton visited it. It did cost us over £20 ($37) for a cuppa tea and cake.

I had the red one on the far right (rasberry and vanilla), Cate had the orange one (mango and passion fruit). Yum yum!
But we savoured each bite!

For $37, you SHOULD have savored every bite (and licked the plate!!)
